Anirudh Dhannayak, Atlanta, Georgia
About
Anirudh Dhannayak is a documentary and fine-art photographer, currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta. Raised in India, he completed his bachelor's degree in Communication Media, specializing in Photography, before dedicating himself to a life behind the lens.
His practice is shaped by years of travel across India, journeys made with little more than a camera and the desire to understand people. He traveled widely to document cultural festivals, daily rituals, and the emotions that connect people to their roots. These early experiences gave him a deep understanding of human nature and formed the foundation of how he tells stories.
His work spans street, photojournalism, editorial, lifestyle, and fine-art photography, yet documentary storytelling remains the heart of his practice. He is drawn to specific, detailed stories that reveal how culture, identity, and tradition shift and survive across generations and places.
For him, photography is an act of connection, a way to listen, observe, and honor the lived experiences of communities. He blends documentary realism with a fine-art sensibility, paying attention to gesture, atmosphere, and the moments that hold cultural meaning.
He keeps working toward stories that do more than document, building a bridge between past and present, and between a tradition and the people who see it.
“Photography is an act of connection, a way to listen, observe, and honor.”
